Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the second-year center who had 48 goals and 93 assists for the 1985-86 season, won the Lester Pearson trophy to end Wayne Gretzky’s five-year domination of the award chosen by NHL players and given to the player who has done the most for the game.
Lemieux had 136 votes to top Gretzky’s 107, while Paul Coffey of the Edmonton Oilers was third and Larry Robinson of the Montreal Canadiens fourth.
