Portuguese players decided to abandon their boycott of World Cup preparations, and team officials said the players gave up their demands for higher bonuses for the championship tournament.

Portuguese federation sources claimed the players surrendered to the federation position and to an appeal by Portuguese President Mario Soares to end the dispute.

The sources said the federation had refused to negotiate the players’ demand to double their $2,000 bonuses for the first round.
