Certron Corp. reported net income of $10,000 for its fiscal second quarter ended April 30, compared to a net loss of $112,000 for the same period a year earlier.

The Anaheim company said the improved results follow its decision to increase procurement of its audio and video tapes from Asia. Citing lower labor costs in Asia and Mexico, Certron has reduced its manufacturing operations in Orange County in recent months.

Sales for the quarter totaled $5.2 million, compared to $6.2 million for the same period a year earlier. The company attributed the decline in sales to reduced contract manufacturing and a decline in retail sales.

Sales for the first half totaled $13.3 million, up from $12.3 million.

In addition to distributing videocassettes and manufacturing a variety of products for other companies, Certron makes audio tapes and floppy disks for computers.
