Four hundred Soviet scholars are working on an encyclopedia--"The United States of America"--to be published sometime between 1988 and 1990, the official Tass news agency said Wednesday.

The Institute of the USA and Canada and the Soviet Encyclopedia publishing house are preparing for the publication of more than 100,000 copies of the two-volume encyclopedia, Tass said.

It will include “nearly 5,000 articles on the state system in that country, its history, economy, foreign policy, science, technology and culture,” the Soviet news agency said.

Besides 400 Soviet scholars researching and writing the articles, “American experts are also to participate,” it said.
