Pomona Woman, 60, Bowls a 300 Game

Rose Walsh, 60, of Pomona, a 165-average bowler, became the second oldest woman to roll a 300 game, completing the feat Thursday during singles play in the $1-million Women’s International Bowling Congress championship tournament at Costa Mesa.

Walsh, playing in Division I for bowlers with a 151-170 average, kneeled down and kissed the lane after getting her 12th consecutive strike. She began her three-game series at the New Kona Lanes with a 137, then rolled a 177 before getting the 300.

“I went one frame at a time,” Walsh said. “In the ninth frame I didn’t think I’d get the 10th (strike). And then in the 10th I didn’t think I’d get another and then another.”

Helen Duval, 65, of Walnut Creek, Calif., is the oldest woman to bowl a 300 game, according to WIBC records.
