Hawaii, Jacksonville Tournaments on Florida Schedule
Tournaments in Hawaii and Jacksonville, five games with other state teams and a special appearance in Pensacola highlight the University of Florida’s 1986-87 basketball schedule.
The Gators play Florida State, Stetson, Central Florida and South Florida before embarking on their 18-game Southeastern Conference schedule. They play Miami in Gainesville Feb. 21.
Florida will play Southern Methodist in Pensacola Dec. 4. Coach Norm Sloan’s team also will participate in the Gator Bowl Tournament in Jacksonville Dec. 19-20, and the Rainbow tournament in Honolulu Dec. 27-30.
Jacksonville, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech are the other entries in the Gator Bowl event, while the eight-team Rainbow includes traditionally strong Kansas, Ohio State and Arkansas.
Sloan directed the Gators to a 19-14 record and a fourth place finish in the National Invitation Tournament last year.
