Prince Charles will visit Chicago--a city whose mayor in the ‘20s once vowed to “punch” Charles’ great-grandfather “in the snoot”--in September, Buckingham Palace said today.

A palace statement said the 37-year-old heir to the British throne will arrive in Boston on Sept. 2. On Sept. 4, he will leave for Chicago. He returns home Sept. 5.

While in Massachusetts, the prince is to participate in Harvard University’s 350th anniversary celebration. In Chicago, he will take part in a charity ball, a department store promotion and a polo match.

In 1927, Chicago’s Prohibition-era Mayor William (Big Bill) Thompson, an Anglophobe, promised while campaigning to personally “punch King George V in the snoot” if he ever dared visit the Windy City.

Princess Diana will not accompany her husband on the trip.
