AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Speaking of Prince, composer Van Dyke Parks will make a rare personal appearance Monday at 8 p.m. when he’ll debut his musical version of Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper” at the Los Angeles Theatre Center’s Tom Bradley Theatre. Billed as a “work in progress,” the show features Parks’ 12-year-old twin nephews, Benjamin and Carson Parks III, in the title roles, along with Jennifer Warnes, Kathy Dalton and a nine-piece orchestra. . . . As anyone who’s ever watched “The T.A.M.I. Show” can tell you, Mick Jagger learned a lot of his dance moves from watching James Brown. So it’s only fitting that the Rolling Stones front man has donated a new song to Brown for his upcoming solo record. . . . Cher has signed with Geffen Records to make a solo album, her first new record in a number of years. . . . And also on the Stones front: You won’t be hearing that thinly veiled copy of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” on Volvo’s (thinly veiled rip-off of “The Big Chill”) TV commercials. The ads have been pulled after lawyers for the Stones’ publishing arm filed a complaint against Volvo and its ad agency. The attorneys are pursuing a copyright infringement lawsuit. . . . And the hot-hitting San Francisco Giants have adopted the Fabulous Thunderbirds’ current hit, “Tuff Enuff,” as their stadium theme song. The band was even invited to perform the song live at a recent ballgame. While the group was unable to set up an appearance, lead singer Kim Wilson did stop by the park on May 23, where he played the National Anthem on his harmonica.
