Commonwealth Unit Ends Mediation Bid
A group of Commonwealth leaders is ending its six-month attempt to negotiate a settlement of South Africa’s racial conflict, a Commonwealth spokeswoman said Saturday.
Patsy Robertson said the seven-member Eminent Persons Group decided not to return to South Africa for more attempts to mediate between the white-led Pretoria government and black nationalists.
She said the group is meeting here to review its report to heads of government of the Commonwealth, the 49-nation association of Britain and its former colonies.
