Reagan’s Stance on Salt II

Share

What is security in our Nuclear Age? Adding to the 50,000 nuclear weapons does not make me feel safer. Building another submarine capable of destroying every major city in the northern hemisphere does not make me feel safer. Moving the arms race into space under the guise of defense does not make me feel safer. The arms race is a threat to me, my children, my country, and my planet.

President Reagan’s decision to ignore the terms of the SALT II treaty by the end of the year is very disturbing. We must grasp every opportunity to work for peaceful solutions, and violating this treaty, even though it was never ratified, will only lead to ill will.

We must take full responsibility for the actions of the United States. It is up to us to lead the world down the correct path. We must maintain good will. We can never allow ourselves to use the terrible weapons we have created.

It’s up to us. Write President Reagan and your congressmen. Tell them what you think. Take hold of this democracy we cherish, and let your voices be heard.
