Senate Tax Revision Bill

Share

According to your article (June 2), “Once-Endangered Tax Bill Now Seems Be Invincible,” shifting the tax burden from the individual to business is a desirable goal. Individual taxpayers would benefit from this plan because their tax rate would be lowered. At the same time, the tax rate for businesses would be raised.

Why does our government insist on insulting the intelligence of the American people? A business enterprise must make a profit to stay in business. If increased taxes result in adding to the cost of doing business, that cost must be passed on to the consumer, ultimately the individual taxpayer. The cost must be added to the price of the goods and services provided by the business sector. The result will be higher prices and the consumer will be paying the higher taxes, only in a different form.

The only way to cut taxes is to reduce the cost of government. Until our elected officials are willing to do that realistically, the people are going to pay, and pay, and pay, in one form or another. Does the government really think we taxpayers are that stupid? I suppose they do. I suppose maybe we are; the idea is catching on, isn’t it?
