Sobriety Roadblocks Lose in Oregon Appeals Court

SALEM, Ore. —
The Oregon Court of Appeals on Wednesday struck down police roadblocks set up at random to catch drunken drivers. The court said they violated state constitutional protections against search and seizure.
The ruling was made in the case of Lynda Nelson of Marcola, Ore., who was pulled over and detained at a police roadblock in Lane County on Dec. 17, 1982. She was not intoxicated and was not arrested, but was required to take field sobriety tests.
