The Region : Union Official Indicted in Fraud Scheme

A Los Angeles union official was indicted by a federal grand jury here on charges of accepting payments to rustle up business for non-union trucking companies at firms where he represented his union. Tim Clinton Williams, 45, business agent of Teamsters Local 598, is accused of 15 counts of mail fraud and 46 counts of accepting payments from an employer. The indictment also names Frankell Ivan Baramdyka, president of I. W. Transport Co., a non-union firm in the City of Industry, who is charged with three counts of aiding and abetting mail fraud and nine counts of payment to union officials. Familian Corp., a manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer of plumbing supplies, is accused in the indictment of illegally lending Williams nearly $20,000. The indictment lists instances over about a three-year period in which Williams allegedly received payments ranging from $500 to more than $6,000 from non-union companies.
