County : Public Works Director Gets Engineering Award
The county’s director of public works has been named this year’s recipient of the Government Civil Engineer of the Year award for the Western United States, it was announced Thursday. The award to Carl R. Nelson is presented by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Nelson, who joined the county’s engineering team 26 years ago and has been director of public works since 1975, was named for his work in civil engineering in the public sector over the past 28 years, county officials said.
During his career, Nelson has managed the design and construction of more than $500-million worth of highway, flood control, harbor, beach and park projects in the county.
