Anderson Presented With Headquarters City Award

Robert O. Anderson, chairman of the executive committee and a director of Atlantic Richfield Co., received the “Spirit of Los Angeles” award from the Los Angeles Headquarters City Assn. at its 25th annual--”Silver Anniversary”-- luncheon in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center.

The award was presented by Philip Hawley, chairman of Carter Hawley Hale, who praised Anderson for his abundant contributions to the civic and cultural life of the city and for establishing a headquarters presence here.

Honored with a plaque was the California Plaza partnership for its leadership role in bringing together business and culture in its $1-billion mixed-use development on Bunker Hill, including its $23-million gift of the Museum of Contemporary Art and a $2-million site for the Dance Gallery and theater.

William Hatch, president of Metropolitan Structures West Inc., managing partner, accepted the award for the partnership, which includes Cadillac Fairview/California Inc., general partner, and Shapell Industries Inc. and Goldrich Kest & Associates, limited partners; Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. was included in the honor for its major commitment to mortgage and equity financing.

Another plaque was awarded to honor Citicorp Plaza for its contribution to the economic vitality of the city with establishment of a headquarters presence in Los Angeles, and Seventh Avenue Market Place, the retail center in the plaza project, for its revitalization of retailing in downtown Los Angeles.

John F. Pipia of Citicorp Real Estate Inc. accepted for the partnership, which also includes Oxford Properties Inc., managing partner, and Prudential Insurance Co. of America, general partner.

Award presentations were made by Barbara Trister, immediate past president, and Sandford P. Paris, first vice president, who co-chaired the event.
