Men, Posing as Wed, Held in Baby’s Death

OAKLAND —
Two men who posed as husband and wife have been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of a 14-month-old infant they were seeking to adopt, police said today.
Officers said Greg Rogers, a 29-year-old transvestite, and his husband, Alvin Woodward, 24, took custody of the baby in April after Rogers portrayed himself as a woman to an adoption agency. They said the two admitted hitting the baby because he was crying too much.
