Muslim kidnapers released two Lebanese Christian hostages in West Beirut and said they will free a third as a good-will gesture in an effort to learn the fate of more than 2,000 Muslim hostages allegedly kidnaped by Christian militiamen in the civil war that started in 1975. The Muslims, believed to be Shia extremists, have claimed responsibility for the kidnaping of 10 Christians along Beirut’s dividing Green Line in the last month.
