Reward Lifted on Philippine Priest
Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile on Thursday lifted a $10,000 reward on the head of Father Conrado Balweg, a Roman Catholic priest turned rebel.
He also proposed to give administrative autonomy to cultural minorities in the northern Cordillera mountains where the guerrilla leader has been operating for nearly 10 years.
“This is to show that we are sincere to use a peaceful solution and not the military to settle the insurgency problem in the region,” Enrile told a meeting of local military and civilian officials.
