The county will have 10 special envoys at the Statue of Liberty when national attention is focused July 4 on the statue’s rededication.

The 10-member dance team from Saddleback High School not only will represent Orange County but also all of California at the Statue of Liberty Celebration in New York City during the holiday weekend.

The Saddleback High dance team was invited to perform after it won first place at a Southwestern Specialty Clinic-sponsored competition earlier this year.

“The invitation itself is exciting, but the clinic officials are even going to pay room and meal expenses for our team members during their stay in New York,” said Nancy O’Connor, Saddleback principal.

Saddleback’s dance team is ranked first in the state and fifth in the nation after various competitions this school year, according to Santa Ana Unified School District officials. The dance team will take part in the 850-member “Liberty Drill Team” that will perform in New York City during the celebration.

Saddleback dance team members are Kristy Bauer, Angelica Cardoza, Dea Cherri, Michelle Garrett, Kristen Hernandez, Adrian Hill, Tracy Isherwood, Zina Merrill, Danali Peralta and Ineke Stoneham. The team is directed by Brenda Blanchard.
