Long-Distance Changes: General Telephone of California customers in parts of Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach can start selecting a preferred company for their single-digit long-distance access. General Telephone said the 18,100 customers in the two cities with the telephone prefixes of 962, 965 and 968 will soon receive a package of information, including a consumer work sheet and a ballot listing the long-distance companies serving their area. The customers will be asked to select one long-distance company for each line they have and mail in their choice to General Telephone within 45 days. The new long-distance carrier will begin service Sept. 27.
