Soviet Space Transport Burns Up as Planned
The Progress 26 cargo ship, which separated Sunday from the Soviet Mir space station, burned up as planned as it re-entered Earth’s atmosphere, the official news agency Tass said Tuesday.
Cosmonauts Leonid Kizim and Vladimir Solovev are scheduled to leave the smaller Salyut 7 space station today and board the Soyuz T-15 spacecraft, which is to take them to Mir.
The two cosmonauts, who flew a record 237 days in space in 1984 and have been aloft for more than 100 days on their current mission, first went to Mir two days after they blasted into space aboard the Soyuz T-15 on March 13.
On May 5, the two transferred to Salyut 7.
Tass said Tuesday the two cosmonauts “are in good health and feeling well.”
