Share

City police officers will celebrate the department’s 25th anniversary July 4 at the police station, 7792 Walker St., after 5- and 10-kilometer races.

Although the actual anniversary is next Thursday, police exhibits and the races are scheduled to coincide with Independence Day, Lt. Vince Giampa said.

Officers from the department’s SWAT team will go through their paces in three demonstrations at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., while canine-unit demonstrations are slated for 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The department will have displays and tours throughout the day at its recently remodeled station.

Registration fees are $11 with a T-shirt or $6 without. Late fees are $8 and an additional $5 for a T-shirt, a spokesman said. Family members running together are eligible for discounts.
