Simi’s Voges Tied for Third at Amateur Golf
Mitch Voges of Simi Valley shot a 2-under-par 70 on Wednesday at Pebble Beach to move into a tie for third place at the 75th California Amateur Championships.
Voges and Buz Greene of Thousand Oaks, who shot a 5-over-par 77, were the only golfers from the Valley area to advance to the single-elimination match play portion of the tournament.
The field has been reduced to 32 golfers, all of whom automatically qualify for next year’s tournament.
Voges, five shots behind leader Dana Banke of Castro Valley and two shots behind second-place Bob May of La Habra, is tied with Mark Gilmartin with a 3-over par total of 219 after 54 holes. Voges plays Pat Burke of West Covina, who just made the cut at 229, in match play this morning.
Greene, who is tied with Mike Blewett of USC at 227, plays Pat Duncan of Rancho Santa Fe this morning. Duncan shot even-par 72 Wednesday for a three-round total of 222.
Match play continues through Friday. The two finalists will play 36 holes Saturday.
