ELLERBEE SAYS SHE’S LEAVING NBC
After nearly 11 years at NBC News, including co-anchor stints at the now-defunct “Weekend” and “NBC News Overnight” series, Linda Ellerbee said Thursday that she is leaving NBC and will decide her next move in network news next month.
The Texas-born reporter, who rejected a new contract from NBC News, described her departure as amicable. She declined to comment on rumors she might soon anchor ABC News’ new “Our World” news series or that CBS News is considering her as a possible co-anchor on its soon-to-be-revamped “CBS Morning News.”
Ellerbee, scheduled to do her last NBC work today on her regular “T.G.I.F.” segment on the “Today Show,” said she planned to take a vacation, start work on the screenplay of her new book, “And So It Goes,” and write magazine articles.
“We are sorry she’s leaving us and wish the very best of luck,” NBC News President Lawrence K. Grossman said in a prepared statement.
