A Sherman Oaks man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol lost control of his motorcycle on a San Diego Freeway on-ramp early Friday morning, killing his passenger, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

James A. Davis, 21, of Sherman Oaks was ejected from the motorcycle’s passenger seat and killed when he was thrown against the ramp meter on the southbound Roscoe Boulevard entrance to the freeway, the CHP spokesman said.

The driver, Robert Raab, 33, apparently made a wide turn onto the ramp and hit an embankment shortly after 3 a.m., the CHP said. Raab received minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter, the spokesman said.
