A woman accused of killing three people and wounding seven others in a shooting rampage at a shopping mall was found guilty but mentally ill on Friday.

The verdict means that Sylvia Seegrist, 25, will receive a hearing on whether she should be committed to a mental institution before she begins serving a mandatory life sentence. Last Oct. 30, Seegrist, of Crum Lynne, opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle on a crowd at the Springfield Mall.

The Delaware County jury found Seegrist guilty of three counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder.

Seegrist has been hospitalized for mental problems 15 times in the last 10 years, and angrily rejected a plea from her mother to commit herself to a mental hospital just hours before the attack, according to testimony.
