Several members of the Oakland A’s have joined in a boycott of the media to protest press treatment of Dave Kingman.

Reporters for the Oakland Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Jose Mercury News all said that they were met by silence from many players after Thursday night’s 9-2 defeat by the Royals at Kansas City.

The writers wanted to ask the athletes about the firing earlier Thursday of Oakland Manager Jackie Moore.

Carney Lansford, Tony Phillips, Moose Haas, Rick Langford, Curt Young and new player representative Chris Codiroli all declined to be interviewed.

One player, who asked not to be named, told the Chronicle’s Bruce Jenkins that the boycott had to do with the Kingman-Susan Fornoff incident, in which Kingman sent a live rat to Fornoff, a writer for the Sacramento Bee, and was fined $3,500.
