Copper workers at one of five companies facing strike deadlines this week voted to accept pay cuts recommended by union officials, as negotiations continued with two companies, Kennecott Corp. and Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co. The 430 unionized workers at Newmont Mining Corp.’s Pinto Valley Copper Co. approved pay cuts from $13.66 an hour to about $11 on average, chief union negotiator Edgar Ball said in Phoenix. Workers at Newmont’s Magma Copper Co. were voting on a similar pact, and ASARCO workers will work without a contract after the current pact expires.
