Dockers Support Harbor Strike

About 4,000 dockworkers pledged today not to cross picket lines at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach after union office workers voted to strike nine steamship and stevedoring companies.
The 275 office workers, members of the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union Local 63, voted to walk off their jobs this morning after negotiations with employers broke down over the issue of job security. Seven ships, most carrying containerized cargo, were immediately idled by the strike, according to port officials.
