Carson : Egan Downplays Role

By his own request, embattled Councilman Walter J. (Jake) Egan has become a non-person at City Hall.

His nameplate was taken off his office door. His picture was removed from the entrance hall. His name was removed from his reserved spot in the City Hall parking lot.

A City Hall official who wished to remain anonymous said Egan had asked for the changes.

Egan is being tried in federal court on charges of mail fraud and extortion related to his support for a mobile home park to be built over a former landfill. The councilman could not be reached for comment.
