PacTel InfoSystems, which is concurrently digesting a consolidation with another Pacific Telesis unit and expanding its demonstration showrooms in California, confirmed Wednesday that it has abolished about 150 non-sales jobs but is adding 100 new sales positions.

The company last April consolidated its computer-sales operations with the phone-equipment sales handled previously by PacTel ComSystems. A spokesman said the move created redundant jobs in certain non-sales areas at the same time that new positions were needed to staff the consolidated company’s growing chain of showrooms.

PacTel InfoSystems is scheduled to open a store in Orange on Monday and another in downtown Los Angeles a week later. The company also said it plans to open two new centers in Northern California this summer, one in Sacramento, the other in Walnut Creek.
