San Diego Roundup : 400 Entrants Expected for 3-Day Yacht Race

About 400 entrants in five classes of boats are expected to compete in the 29th annual Marina del Rey to San Diego Yacht Race, which begins today off the Marina del Rey breakwater. The race will end Sunday at San Diego Harbor.

It is the second-largest race in the world, behind the annual Newport to Ensenada race that attracts 600 yachts.

The NASCAR All-American Challenge Series Southwest Tour will make its first appearance at Cajon Speedway tonight. The 100-lap race, with a $1,000 first prize, will begin at 7:30.

In the NASCAR All-American Challenge Series point standings, Ron Esau of Lakeside is in first with 210 points. Troy Beebe of Modesto is 15 points back and Roger Avants of Littleton, Colo., is 17 points behind.

The first factory stock enduro event of 1986 will be Saturday. More than 50 drivers will run the first 75 laps clockwise, then turn around and run the second 75 counterclockwise. Racing will start at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for adults are $6 for the East Side and $5 for the West Side; children’s tickets are $2. For more information, call 448-8900.

The San Diego Nomads of the Western Soccer Alliance travel to Los Angeles Saturday to play the third-place Los Angeles Heat. The Nomads tied for their second consecutive time last weekend when they held the first-place Hollywood Kickers scoreless.

The third annual Tankslappers Grand Prix will be Sunday at Carlsbad Raceway.

Gates open at 6:30 a.m., and the first race, for three- and four-wheeled off-road vehicles, will start at 8:30. Seniors and veterans will race at 10:15, open and 125cc bikes will race at 11:30, and 250cc bikes and beginners will begin at 12:45 p.m. Teams will be allowed to enter Sunday and will race at 2:30.
