Last year’s open air symphony performance attracted several thousand to the Village Green in Garden Grove, and the city has decided to keep a good thing going.

This summer, Garden Grove is staging an entire free concert series, said Angela Anand, who coordinates the events.

The second of these on July 13 features the orchestra of Howard Reynolds playing big band music from the 1940s, including the tunes of Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Count Basie and Benny Goodman. The concert will be from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m at the Village Green, at Euclid and Main streets.

Anand said a youth dance troupe will perform to the beat of boogie-woogie, and there will be free popcorn and balloons. Everyone is invited to bring along a picnic dinner and a blanket for sitting, she said.

Upcoming concerts will feature Bluegrass, symphony and Dixieland music.
