Now that I have returned to Scotland after three weeks in California, I must write a few lines to thank the people of Los Angeles and surrounding districts for making my holiday so memorable.

I was prepared for the wonderful weather, the delights of Disneyland and Sea World, the attractions of the Universal Studios and Hollywood, the splendor of the Paul Getty Museum and the sunshine at Santa Barbara, but what impressed me most was the warm hospitality, the spontaneous genuine kindnesses and friendliness shown by everyone--not only my hosts but also by the men and women in the shopping malls, the waitresses in the restaurants, the children in the school playgrounds who initiated me into the delights of baseball and the guides and attendants in the many tourist attractions.

Thank you again, people of California.
