First baseman-designated hitter Billy Jo Robidoux was placed on the 15-day disabled list after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday, the Milwaukee Brewers announced.

Dr. Paul Jacobs, the Brewers’ team physician who operated on Robidoux at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, said the injury was not as severe as originally believed. He said an examination of Robidoux’s left knee during the operation indicated the rookie suffered a knee sprain, which did not require the removal of any cartilage.

The Brewers placed Robidoux on the American League club’s 15-day disabled list, beginning Tuesday, a team spokesman said. Robidoux was expected to be sidelined for about three weeks.

Third baseman-outfielder Paul Molitor, on the disabled list three times this season with a hamstring injury, was expected to be activated before today’s game with the Angels, Milwaukee Manager George Bamberger says.
