Grody, to the Max : Valley Critic Gets Comeuppance

COLORADO SPRINGS — Like, there was this political commentator, you know, and he said that California’s Valley Girls were, like, “brainless.” Can you believe it?
But, like, our governor was there--George Deukmejian--you know, the top dog, and he stood up for us and he told this guy, Kevin Phillips, that what he said was, like, “incorrect.”
This Phillips guy was talking about the American educational system, you know, compared to the Europeans and Japanese and he, you know, really slammed Valley Girls.
He said something really cruel like:
“In California, for example, if you start talking about the percentage of people who have had one year of higher education, and you take one of the brainless Valley Girls who spent one year at Santa Barbara majoring in surfing or something, I fail to see how that represents too much of a threat to the Japanese or Swedes or Germans.
“I would say we all know the problem, the United States has let the education system go completely to seed.”
Gag me with a spoon.
Then this Deukmejian guy, even though he was at the annual meeting of the Western Governors’ Assn., right, like he stands up for us.
And he says:
“There’s one incorrect statement that Mr. Phillips made that I’d like to correct.
“If there are any Valley Girls at Santa Barbara, I’m sure they’re very beautiful, and I’m sure they’re not brainless, because they’d have to be in the top 12% of their high school class to get into the University of California at Santa Barbara.”
Like, for sure.
