Final approval for creation of a Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum in Griffith Park was given by the city Board of Referred Powers, despite Sierra Club concerns that the project would damage the park environment. Plans call for a 140,000-square-foot museum of Western history, named for the cowboy actor, to be located on a 2 1/2-acre site in the Pine Meadows section of the park.
