A lawsuit filed by a 47-year-old man whose artificial heart valve failed as he drove on the Santa Monica Freeway was settled in Santa Monica Superior Court for an undisclosed amount. Bruce Peterson had sued Shiley Inc. of Irvine, manufacturer of the Convexo-Concave Valve, for $5 million because the valve malfunctioned Jan. 2, 1985. Peterson was able to drive to a hospital.
