Employee Drug Testing: Passed and sent to the governor on a 41-18 vote a bill (AB 4242) by Assemblyman Johan Klehs (D-San Leandro) to require employers who demand that workers submit to drug or alcohol tests to use state-licensed laboratories to determine the results.

Dry Cleaners: Passed and sent to the governor on a 67-3 vote a bill (AB 183) by Assemblyman Ross Johnson (R-La Habra) to abolish the state Board of Dry Cleaning and Fabric Care.

Senate Floor Action:

AIDS: Passed and sent to the governor on 23-8 vote a bill (AB 3667) by Assemblyman Art Agnos (D-San Francisco) to classify AIDS victims as physically handicapped to protect them from discrimination in employment and housing.

Drunken Boat Operators: Passed and sent to the governor on a 34-0 vote a bill (SB 1494) by Sen. John Seymour (R-Anaheim) to establish a blood alcohol level of .10% as the intoxication level for boat operators--the same level that applies to automobile drivers. It also would provide similar criminal penalties for violations.
