Newport Beach : Water Quality Board Gets Additional Funds
State Sen. Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach) announced that the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board will get additional funds to expand studies on water quality and toxic substances in Newport Bay.
The state Water Resources Control Board approved funding for the equivalent of an extra staff specialist position for six months to concentrate on water quality issues affecting Newport Bay and the Upper Newport Bay wildlife reserve.
Bergeson said the money was added to the water quality control board budget in recognition of the importance of continued monitoring for bacterial pollution, toxic chemicals and heavy metals that have been found in bay waters and in fish.
