Vitamins May Ease Premenstrual Tension

Junk food, alcohol and tobacco make women more susceptible to premenstrual tension, says the British Pre-Menstrual Tension Advisory Service.

It said in a report that women of child-bearing age had become more prone to the syndrome largely as a result of life styles that lead to vitamin deficiencies. The group said that of 500 women it surveyed in five towns and cities in England, 368 suffered from the syndrome. But 87% of 150 women selected from this group felt better after three months on a specialized diet and nutritional supplement program, it said.

“Many modern diets are clearly deficient in essential vitamins and minerals, and we consume far more junk food than ever before, as well as consuming increasing amounts of alcohol and tobacco,” the report said. “When faced with these facts, it is hardly surprising that many more women are suffering with unpleasant premenstrual symptoms like anxiety, nervous tension, irritability, depression, insomnia and breast tenderness.”
