BEAVER CREEK, Colo. — Three-time defending champion Jimmy Connors will be looking to make it four in a row when he heads the field for the $125,000 PaineWebber Invitational, to be held at the Kiva tennis facility here July 31-Aug. 3.
Connors, who ended a 10-week suspension last month and lost in the first round at Wimbledon, will have to get by some of the world’s top players here, including second-ranked Mats Wilander of Sweden, No. 12 Tim Mayotte and No. 13 Kevin Curren.
Connors, 33, currently is ranked third in the world by the Assn. of Tennis Professionals.
