Los Alamitos : National Guard Sets Up Public Meeting on Wall

Share

Officers of the California National Guard will hold a public meeting at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the City Council’s chambers for residents concerned about a 12-foot-high sound wall the guard wants to build near a residential neighborhood.

While the 1,200-foot-long wall--similar to sound walls on freeways, but with landscaping--would block noise from military vehicles at the facility facing Denwood Avenue, some residents say it would not keep exhaust fumes from reaching their homes.

The wall would be built 60 feet from residential property on federally owned land and would not be subject to City Council approval.

Col. Dan Hernandez, the base commander, and Col. San Kouns, the officer in charge of the wall’s design, will present their plan and answer questions, said Mike Brotemarkle, community development director.

The council chambers are at 3191 Katella Ave.
