Voyager, a long-distance light airplane, set a record for nonstop flight by a piston-powered airplane during the final day of its test flight. A spokesman at the Voyager’s base at Mojave Airport said pilot Dick Rutan and co-pilot Jeana Yeager had been aloft for 95 hours when they broke the piston-engine record of 10,007 nonstop statute miles, set in 1981 by Jerry Mullins in a BD-2 flying between Oklahoma City and Jacksonville. Rutan and Yeager, who have been flying up and down the California coast since last Thursday, are testing their airplane in preparation for an attempt to fly around the world nonstop.
