Altadena : Church Sues Hospital

The Church of Altadena has filed a lawsuit against Pasadena’s Huntington Memorial Hospital, alleging that the hospital breached a contract to sell the church a 198-acre site in Altadena.

The Rev. Harold Andrews said that escrow proceedings began last October and the church put down a $275,000 deposit on the land. Andrews said that the hospital has refused to return the money.

The lawsuit also asks that the deposit be returned to the church if it is not applied toward purchase of the land.

A hospital spokeswoman said that Huntington Memorial had fulfilled all its obligations to the Church of Altadena under the contract and that escrow was closed by mutual agreement after the church was unable to complete the transaction. Hospital officials refused to make any further comments.
