The future of America’s space program hinges on permanent manned space stations, something the U.S.S.R. already has. The shuttle will service our space stations, both in polar and in equatorial orbits.
Your short-nosed “elephant” talks about America’s space shuttle as a complicated and finicky transportation system. Imagine how costly America’s transport and air defense systems would be today if they were completely unmanned.
It would not be peanuts.
