The Army helped the Teamsters Union win a close union election among civilian workers at an Oklahoma military base last October, the Washington Post reported. Army documents obtained by the Post indicated that the intervention was arranged by President Reagan’s political director, Mitchell Daniels, and the office of Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger. A complaint issued Feb. 19 by the Federal Labor Relations Authority, which can overturn the election results, said the action violates a law requiring the government to remain neutral in union races. The Army has contested the charge, the Post said.
