Missouri-Synod Lutherans Vote Against Ordination of Women
Delegates representing 2.6 million Lutherans in the Midwest took less than five minutes this week to decide that women cannot be ordained as pastors.
The more than 1,100 delegates attending the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod made the decision by voting in a show of hands.
The action followed a vote approving a resolution saying women can serve as officers and as members of boards and committees as long as it does not violate “the order of creation” by usurping authority over men.
In other action, the Rev. Ralph Bohlmann was reelected president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Bohlmann beat the Rev. Robert Sauer by 129 votes on the first ballot.
