A 56-year-old man was arrested Friday after Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies searched a remote area north of Forest Park, near Saugus and found up to 1,200 marijuana plants valued by authorities at $1.5 million.
Juan Duran was arrested about 6 p.m. at a mobile home on Lost Creek Road after an anonymous tip led searchers there, said Deputy Pete Fosselman.
Twenty uniformed deputies and several narcotics detectives searched the area and helped confiscate the plants, which ranged from 3 to 5 feet high, Fosselman said. Deputies also seized a military assault rifle with a 40-round magazine, he said.
Duran, who rented the property where he lived in a mobile home, was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, Fosselman said. He was held at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station in lieu of posting a $200,000 bond, Fosselman said.
