Radiation Treatments for Howser
The Kansas City Royals said Friday that Manager Dick Howser will undergo about five weeks of radiation treatments for the cancerous tumor found in his brain earlier this week. But the team declined to provide detailed results of pathological tests.
The club released a statement saying that Dr. Charles Clough, the neurosurgeon who operated on Howser Tuesday at St. Luke’s Hospital, reported that the pathology studies confirmed findings of a malignant tumor known as a glioma in the left frontal lobe of the brain.
Clough said after Tuesday’s three-hour operation that only part of the golf-ball sized tumor could be removed, and doctors were awaiting test results before making a decision on treating the 50-year-old manager.
